Linwood: Man shot and killed by deputies during attempt to serve warrant

Davidson County Sheriff’s deputies went to a residence in the 300 block of Wilson Road in Linwood just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday in attempt to serve a felony warrant and ended up shooting and killing a man.

Reports state at one point, deputies encountered the person they were searching for who was wanted by several police jurisdictions. When the man saw police, officials say he ran from them, engaging them in pursuit. At some point, police said the man “brandished” a gun and officers fired.

The suspect was shot and died at the scene. No deputies were physically injured during the altercation.

Officials are not releasing the name of the decedent in order to allow for notification of his family. Nor are the names of officers involved being released at this time.

In a statement, the DCSO stated “this is an ongoing investigation and further information will be released in the coming weeks.” There is no threat or danger to the community.

The NC State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) has taken over the investigation of the shooting which is standard when an officer is involved.
