Crappie League Fishing Tournament comes to High Rock Lake, Feb. 7-8
Press Release
LEXINGTON, N.C. – High Rock Lake will be the host site for a National Crappie League (NCL) wild card tournament, Feb. 7-8. The event is open to amateur and semi-professional anglers who will compete for cash, prizes and a chance to qualify for the NCL National Championship.
High Rock Lake is considered a very solid fishery for both black crappie and white crappie, and anglers are discovering the lake as a destination for crappie fishing in winter months.
Anglers are eligible to compete in the amateur division if they have earned less than $5,000 per individual or $10,000 per team in the previous two years. The semi-pro division is open to all individuals and teams, regardless of previous earnings.
Fishing hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, and all legal waters on High Rock Lake may be fished. Weigh-in takes place each day between 3-4 p.m. at Southmont Abbotts Creek Boat Access, 899 Area Access Rd, Lexington, NC.
People who prefer to fish without a boat can compete in the bank and dock fishing division. Hours for that are 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and participants must be in the weigh-in line by 12:30 p.m.
Additionally, a free kids’ fishing rodeo takes place the second day, Feb. 8, for children age 12 and younger, accompanied by a parent or guardian. Registration for the kid’s rodeo is at 8 a.m., with fishing from 9-10:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded.
The event is hosted by the Lexington Tourism Authority, along with local sponsors Angler’s Choice Marine, Rock Outdoors, Speedy Lohr’s BBQ and Cagney’s Kitchen.
Host hotels are the Comfort Inn & Suites in Lexington and the Quality Inn & Suites in Lexington.
