Cotton Grove Road shooting suspect arrested
LEXINGTON, NC – At approximately 4 pm on Tuesday, August 16, 39-year-old Rozell Sanders was arrested and served warrants related to the August 4 shooting on Cotton Grove Road in Lexington. The US Marshals Service assisted the Lexington Police Department in locating and arresting Sanders in Winston-Salem.
Sanders is charged with attempted 1st degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is being held in the Davidson County Detention Center on a $250,000 secured bond. Sanders is scheduled to appear in Lexington District Court on September 12.

Lexington Police Department Investigates Shooting on Cotton Grove Road
LEXINGTON, NC – Lexington Police Officers responded to a reported shooting at a gas station on Cotton Grove Road at 3:15 pm on Friday, August 4. When officers arrived, they found one victim, 37-year-old Ricky Kessler, in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Kessler was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem and is currently in critical condition.
Lexington Police Investigators quickly identified a suspect vehicle and the suspects involved. Investigators arrested 34-year-old Martika Lattimore of Lexington. Lattimore is charged with accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder. She is being held on a $50,000 bond at Davidson County Detention Center. Her court date is August 31, 2023.
The shooter was identified as 38-year-old Rozell Sanders of Lexington. He is now wanted for attempted first degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
