Political Opinion: GOP Chair Chris Jessup
As part of our hyperlocal coverage, Davidson Local invites ALL registered political parties to submit a monthly opinion column by a designee.
During an intense naval battle during the American Revolution, John Paul Jones, who was commanding the Bonhomme Richard, famously declared to his British opponents who were seeking his surrender, “I have not yet begun to fight!” These powerful words have resonated through the generations as a rallying cry for Americans who have faced trials, both at home and abroad.
As we ponder the problems our nation has faced over the years and how Americans overcame them, one detail emerges that should be examined. Namely, each generation met the problem with determination, faith in God, and a resolve to find a solution. An example of this would be how each American uniquely participated in the war effort during World War II. Some were soldiers while others collected scrap metal that was used by soldiers in their guns. Everyone had a part to play in order for the United States to be successful and for freedom to be preserved.
While circumstances are different today, this principle remains the same. There is a battle taking place around us that threatens to, as a former president claimed, fundamentally change everything we know and love about our country. Are you doing your part to preserve freedom for future generations of Americans? So many before us have, including John Paul Jones.
