Thomasville: Martin Luther King 37th National Holiday Observance
The Martin Luther King Social Action Committee (MLK-SAC) announces the itinerary for the 2023 Martin Luther King National Holiday celebration in Thomasville, NC to be held Friday, January 13 through Monday, January 16, 2023. The celebration will mark the 37th Anniversary of the King National Holiday and the 22nd Anniversary of the local event. The local theme is “Dismantling the Strongholds of Systemic Racism, Poverty, and Violence.”
MLK African Arts Festival will be held at Citadel of Faith Christian Fellowship on Friday, January 13 at 7 p.m., featuring Collaborative Artists Placement Network, LLC from Winston-Salem, NC, founder Dr. Stephanie Hurt. Admission is free and asking all to come out and enjoy the event by wearing some African attire!
The 22 nd MLK Oratorical Contest will be held at Mills Home Baptist Church, Baptist Children’s Homes of NC, 701 Watson Circle, Thomasville, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2022. MLK-SAC will give over $25,000 in scholarships and trophies in 2023. High School juniors and seniors from the Piedmont Triad region will participate in the oratorical contest that provides money for college. MLK-SAC will also honor our two MLK Community Service Awards Recipients, Mrs. Teresa B. Mitchell, Director Student Services, Thomasville City Schools, Thomasville, NC and Elder Kelvin Sellers, Pastor, A Second Chance Community Ministry, High Point, NC.
MLK Multicultural Arts Celebration will be held at Citadel of Faith Christian Fellowship on Sunday, January 15 at 4 p.m., featuring vocal sensation Christa Faison-Hall, Ahoskie, NC; violinist Gabbi Rodgers, Raleigh, NC and Nick Hayes and Cufflinx, Greensboro, NC. This event is free to the public and will be a worship experience you will not forget.
MLK 37 th National Holiday Observance will be held on Monday, January 16, at 7 p.m., hosted by Elder Calvin Smith, Pastor and First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church, 103 Church Street, Thomasville, NC, featuring High Point University Genesis Gospel Choir. Asking all to come out and share in building the beloved community that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. not only preached but lived.
