I hope you all had a wonderful new year! I look forward to spending 2023 with you all and am excited to share all this year with bring us in 2023.
Many new NC laws were scheduled to go into effect on January 1st of 2023 after being past in the last session.
This is an exciting time of year at the North Carolina General Assembly as the Senate and House of Representatives prepare for the beginning of long session. By the end of January, we will be in the full swing of things, so be on the lookout for committee meeting information, new bills, and everything that happens on the Senate floor.
Officials with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission announced the 2023-2024 proposed changes to inland fishing, hunting, trapping, game land and other regulated activities, and the January 2023 public hearing schedule where they will receive comments.
The NCGA Senate Page Program is now accepting page applications for the 2023 session. This program offers students in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades the opportunity to learn about and participate in our state's legislative process. Allowing them to observe firsthand how our laws are made, it provides them with the unique privilege of working on the Senate Chamber floor in the midst of legislative action.
A North Carolina law preventing legal settlements between farms and workers from requiring a farm operation to become a union employer doesn't violate the U.S. Constitution, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday while overturning a lower court decision.
Duke Energy executives repeatedly apologized and owned up to the situation that caused thousands in North and South Carolina to be without power during a bitter cold snap leading up to the Christmas holiday weekend. The admissions came during a hearing Tuesday before the North Carolina Utilities Commission.
North Davidson Public Library staff hopes an upcoming program will take the fear and uncertainty out of financial panning. The library will host a financial planning program for women at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19. The program, titled, “Invest in Yourself” will inform participants how to use the resources such as retirement savings or a 401(k).
A provision in the 2021 state budget law that takes effect Sunday requires governors to gain formal support from other elected officials for their short-term emergency declarations to last beyond 30 days.
U.S. Rep. Dan Bishop of North Carolina’s 8th congressional district flipped his vote for House Speaker to Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California after voting for an alternative on the previous 11 ballots. The change came on the 12th ballot for House Speaker on the afternoon of Jan. 6.
