DAR supporting Wreaths Across America
Leonard’s Creek Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution announces its third year of participating in Wreaths Across America Day. Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the group’s mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 3,400 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. The local event honors deceased Davidson County veterans and takes place on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at noon in the historic cemetery of Pilgrim Reformed Church located at 797 Pilgrim Church Road, Lexington, NC. Live, balsam wreaths will be laid on all veteran graves with many dating back to the American Revolution.
Leonard’s Creek Chapter Regent, Susan Weaver shared, “As direct descendents of patriots from the Ameican Revolution, we are compelled to honor not only those heros but all veterans throughout the generations. Our chapter provides valuable community service to area veteran’s organizations including the NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury, NC and to other non-profits. This fundraiser allows us to support these programs while fulfilling our mission of historical preservation, promotion of education, and encouragement of patriotic endeavor.” Wreaths are provided by Wreaths Across America and cost $15 each with a portion of the proceeds going to the DAR chapter to be used in service projects.
“We are forever grateful to all the volunteers and groups who dedicate their time and effort nationwide to fulfilling this yearlong mission,” said Karen Worcester, executive director, Wreaths Across America. “These individuals and their communities know the value of remembering the fallen, honoring those who currently serve and teaching the next generation about the sacrifices made for our freedom every day, and with their continued support, Wreaths Across America continues to grow.”

About Leonard’s Creek Chapter, NSDAR
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) is a non-profit, non political, volunteer women’s service organization founded in 1890 by a small group of patriotic women who desired to step out of their daily lives to serve the nation and its people. More than one million women have joined the organization since it was founded over 125 years ago. There are chapters in all 50 states and several countries abroad. All members have proven their family lineage back to a Patriot of the American Revolution. The Leonard’s Creek Chapter, NSDAR, was organized in June 2018 and is based in Lexington, NC, which is the county seat of Davidson County. The town was named in honor of Lexington, MA, where in 1775 “the shot heard around the world” was fired. The Chapter is dedicated to the mission of DAR in promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing American’s future through better education for children.
