Davidson County wakes to a light dusting of snow, school closings and extreme temperatures

Citizens of Davidson County woke up this morning to a light dusting of snow covering tree limbs and grassy areas. Accumulation was less than a half inch of snow, giving the early morning a powdery coat and marking the first measurable snowfall in three years for the area.

As a result of the weather Davidson County Schools has chosen to close for all students today, offering an optional teacher workday. The forecast continues with cold weather for the remainder of the week with wind chill values dropping as low as 18 tomorrow morning and possible wind gusts as high as 21 mph.

Although there isn’t snow accumulated on the roads, drivers are still asked to drive with caution with threats of black ice and icy patches remaining on random areas of the roads, even after sunrise. Caution is especially asked while driving or walking on bridges and elevated surfaces, as these areas freeze faster than the ground.

With Davidson County experiencing record temperatures and lows in the mid-teens, local warming centers are opening to aid those that are without homes during this extreme weather. Volunteers are also needed to staff these facilities.
