Davidson County Bicentennial Celebration
The Davidson County Bicentennial Committee, headed by Debbie Harris, Clerk to the Davidson County Commissioners, has been working hard for over 2 years on planning various festivities celebrating the County’s 200th Birthday. These efforts have included a recent cycling event executed by Roadies and Dirties, a play performed all over the county, and educational bus tours of individual towns all over the County.
The official date of the County’s Bicentennial is 11-22-2022 with the first meeting of the Davidson County Board of Commissioners being held 01 -27-1823. To celebrate Davidson County’s 200th birthday the committee is hosting a spectacular event for the community set for Saturday November 12th at the Davidson County Fairgrounds. The free event will begin at 10:00AM – 4:00PM and will feature a petting zoo, bounce house, face painting, period costumes, performances, and community exhibits
This is a celebration of Davidson County’s history with one of the main historical highlights being a speaker series. An array of speakers are slated to share their knowledge and they include: Chris Watford, Jim Daniel, Rev. Dr. Ray Howell, Tonya Lanier, Dr. Gary Freeze, and Rev. Arnetta Beverly. There will also be two replays of the revamped comedic play “Pigs, Chairs and Uptown Squares.”
An ample amount of community organizations will be present to contribute to the festivities including Genealogical Society, Davidson County Library, Arts Davidson County, Thomasville Tourism, The United Way, Lexington Chamber of Commerce, Town of Denton, Veterans Services, Yadkin River Keepers, Thomasville Historic Preservation Committee, Denton Museum, and many other volunteer participants.
