Davidson County Commissioner charged with assault
Assault charges are pending against Davidson County Commissioner, Chairman Todd Yates.
Charges were filed against Yates for an altercation which allegedly occurred at a business that Yates owns on US Highway 64 in Lexington.
James Strickland, who rents property from Yates said that he was assaulted during a brief meeting with Yates to discuss a property rental payment agreement. Strickland stated that during the meeting, Yates assaulted him and also brandished a firearm.
The Davidson County Sheriff was called to de-escalate the situation, with Strickland being the only one to file charges for misdemeanor simple assault and misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun against Yates, with the Davidson County Magistrate Office.
Yates released the following statement, “I have been advised by my legal council that I cannot comment on the charges due to the fact that the case is currently pending in court. I have absolute confidence in our judicial system and I am confident that I will be vindicated at the conclusion of the court process.”
Strickland attended the Davidson County Board of Commissioners meeting last night and addressed the board, requesting Yates to resign as a sign of accountability.
The court date is scheduled for June 27th.
