Davidson County Local Food Network and Thomasville Farmers Market announce launch of a new pop-up farmers market

The Davidson County Local Food Network and the Thomasville Farmers Market are excited to announce the launch of a new pop-up farmers market at the Senior Services Congregate Center in Thomasville.

This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to improve access to fresh and locally grown farm produce for the community, particularly our senior citizens.

Starting July 9th, the pop-up farmers market will be open every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. throughout the month of July. If produce availability remains strong, the market will continue until August. The market is located at 211 W. Colonial Drive in Thomasville, and will be held indoors in an air-conditioned space to ensure comfort for all attendees.

The primary goal of this farmers market is to provide easier access to nutritionally dense food for seniors. Senior citizens receiving state-issued senior vouchers can use them to purchase farm products at the market. As well, SNAP-EBT customers can also shop at the market.

The Davidson County public transport system will provide transportation for seniors to the center, ensuring that they benefit from this opportunity.

"We're thrilled to offer this pop-up farmers market to help our seniors access fresh, healthy produce right in their community," said Gracy Kanoy, President of the Davidson County Local Food Network. Cameron Hartwell, the Congregate Nutrition Program Manager at Senior Services, asked us whether we could accommodate their seniors by having a farmers market at the congregate centers. We are happy to say that the Thomasville Farmers Market was available to accommodate this need. This market is not only for seniors but is open to the general public as well, and we welcome everyone to come and enjoy the fresh produce from our local farms."

The Davidson County Local Food Network remains dedicated to promoting local farming and enhancing food security within the community. We invite everyone to shop at the pop-up farmers market at Senior Services  Congregate Center in Thomasville to support our local farmers and enjoy fresh, locally sourced produce.
