DCPL celebrates 'Take Your Child to the Library Day'

This February, Davidson County Public Library will be celebrating the internationally  recognized Take Your Child to the Library Day. Parents who bring their children to visit the  various library locations on the appropriate day will be able to participate in a meet and greet  with a character from children’s literature.

According to the Connecticut Library Consortium, Take Your Child to the Library Day, which began in 2011, was created by library staff and an artist and is now celebrated each year internationally by highlighting the crucial role that libraries play in the lives of children as well  as families.

“We know the more books children are exposed to, the more likely they are to become better  readers and stronger students. The library is there to help children and families find the right  books to start a lifelong love of reading,” said Sheila Killebrew, Library Director.

The branches will observe the event with a unique character, date, and time of day. Meet  Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series at Lexington (Saturday, Feb. 4th, 10 a.m. – 1  p.m.), Chase from Paw Patrol at Thomasville (Feb. 4th, 12 – 3 p.m.), Dr. Seuss’, The Cat in the  Hat at Denton (Feb. 4th, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.), Elsa and Anna of Frozen at North Davidson (Monday,  Feb. 6th, 2 – 4 p.m.), and Bo Peep from Toy Story at West Davidson (Saturday, Feb. 11th at 11  a.m.). Be sure to contact each branch for more details on other activities for the day.
