DCPL's Lexington branch to hold grand re-opening

DCPL's Lexington branch to hold grand re-opening

The Davidson County Public Library announces a grand re-opening of its Lexington branch, located on 602 S. Main St. The event will occur Wednesday, October 12th from 10 AM-2 PM.  Attendees will see the exciting changes, updates, and improvements to the facility.

Since 2019, the Lexington campus has undergone extensive renovations. The branch is now  home to a computer lab featuring assistive technologies, an expanded genealogy department (now located across the parking lot in the annex building), a renovated children’s library with  new murals, a craft room, as well as a re-imagined story-time area. This is the first renovation  since the library moved to its current building in 1985. County leadership and library staff  initiated these changes to better serve residents of Lexington and Davidson County.

“We are very excited to get those in our community who have not been back to the library since  the beginning of the pandemic reacquainted with our newly refurbished facility,” said Allen  Barnhardt, Librarian and Branch Manager in Lexington. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19,  coupled with closures of the library due to renovations, many patrons might still be unaware  that the library has returned to full operations.

The Grand Re-Opening themed “Past, Present, & Future,” will feature tours of the renovated  facility enhanced with informational displays on the branch’s history. In addition, staff members  will provide technology demonstrations of new equipment including a 3-D printer, Cricut  Machine, and a Makey Makey. These technologies are available for use by appointment (small  operation fee required). Refreshments will be available to attendees.

The Grand Re-Opening is an initiative spearheaded by staff leadership to welcome patrons and  the public back to the library. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the  occasion (time TBA).
