On March 4th, the Denton branch of the Davidson County Public Library System will celebrate its 2nd annual Library-Con Comic Book Convention. Comic book enthusiasts and people of all ages are welcome to attend the festivities.
The event started last year as a collaboration between the West Davidson Library and the Denton Library in order to provide an opportunity for comic enthusiasts in the area to connect with one another and celebrate comics, manga, and graphic novels. The hope is to build on last year’s success.
“This event is a miniature comic book convention providing all the excitement and fun without the cost of admission! It will be an event dedicated as a celebration of the comic book industry and format that couples both a love for art and reading! The focus of this event is to inspire interest in comic books, comic art styles, the comic book industry, and storytelling at a community level. Because the event focuses on local businesses and artists, we anticipate an economic benefit to the community,” said Jacob Hollifield, Library Technician at Denton.
The event, which will occur from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., will feature local merchandise booths, a costume contest with prizes, artistic activity stations, and artist/writer panels and workshops with Q&A. Confirmed Artists/Writers in attendance include Dan Johnson, John Wycough, Brian Wingrove, Rick Davis, and William Thomas Boyer. Confirmed Merchants include Larry Allen and Chris Rigo. Attendees can participate in a $1 prize raffle with a drawing each hour and a final, big drawing at the event’s close. Prizes include signed art prints, new graphic novels, toys, and baskets full of items that comic book enthusiasts are sure to love. The money raised will go toward an expansion of the library’s graphic novel collection.
