Drug dealer charged with local woman's death from fentanyl poisoning
Deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a death investigation of an adult female, in the Wallburg community of Davidson County.
Detectives with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, where information and evidence were uncovered that led Detectives to believe the death was possibly related to a narcotic overdose.
During the lengthy investigation, Detectives identified Wayne Greer Phillips III, 47 of High Point, NC, as the suspect that distributed narcotics to the victim before their death.
On July of 2024, Detectives received toxicology results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner's Office that confirmed the death was due to fentanyl toxicity.
On July 26, 2024, Detectives, with the assistance of officers from the High Point Police Department located and apprehended Phillips without incident. Phillips was formally charged with one count of Death by Distribution. Phillips was ordered to be held at the Davidson County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in Lexington District Court on July 29, 2024.
