Reverence, praise and respect were on display Sunday, October 9 as Al Kattab Temple #201 honored their eldest member, Lewis Michael, with a prestigious award. Flanked by other members of the temple, Michael was unanimously bestowed with the Imperial Council’s highest honor: Honorary Past Imperial Potentate.
The recognition took place at the church where Michael, 98, has been a member his entire life (as his parents were members there), St. Stephen United Methodist Church. Representing the temple were Assistant Rabbon Noble Kendrick Smith and Imperial Deputy of the Oasis Noble Tim Johnson. Both made remarks regarding Michael’s contributions to the chapter.
Smith stated it was “truly an honor” to present an awards that “recognizes contributions of its members.” He referenced Michael as a man who has gone above and beyond the call of duty since becoming a member. Smith also called him upstanding and a man of great honor.
Michael was noted as a charter member of the temple in 1978 when Johnson shared his experience in working with and getting to know the honoree.
“God puts people in your path along the way for a season. You never know which direction they’re going to come from. I’ve always looked up to Noble Michael. He always has a word. You can call him anytime and he’s going to listen. I can’t think of a greater title than the ‘Evidence of a True Noble.’
