From Lexington City Schools: Creating a safe and supportive environment for student success

The Lexington City Schools System recently released the following information and updates for the 2024-2025 school year.

Creating a Safe and Supportive Environment for Student Success

As we eagerly prepare for the start of the 2024-25 school year, Lexington City Schools reaffirms its unwavering commitment to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for all students and staff. These updates are grounded in our core values of safety, wellness, and the social-emotional well-being of our school community, as we reinforce the importance of our existing policies and policy updates.

School Bus Discipline and Conduct

Beginning with the 2024/2025 school year, Lexington City Schools will operate with consistent school procedures, including assigned seats and a progressive discipline process. All schools will follow these consistent practices across the district. All students will have assigned seats on the bus this school year.

Clear Backpack Policy

Lexington City Schools will continue with the successful implementation of the clear backpack policy.  As a reminder, students will be required to use backpacks made of clear plastic, vinyl, mesh, or similar transparent materials.  The clear bag policy and security checks will also be in effect at all district events, including athletic events.

Updated Cell Phone Policy

The Lexington City Schools cell phone policy has been updated to protect instructional time, promote student focus, and limit distractions. It also aims to prevent unnecessary disciplinary actions related to the misuse of cell phones.  In elementary and middle schools, the use of cell phones will not be permitted throughout the school day.  At the high school, the use of cell phones will only be permitted during a students’ designated lunch period. For more information, please visit www.lexcs.org to review the full policy.
