From Sen. Jarvis' Senate Desk: August 13, 2021
Dear Friends,
The State Budget is being modified this week and will be returned to the Senate. The budget passed its third reading in the NC House this week (72-41).
Also this week I sat down with some of my colleagues to discuss the future of S693 as this bill is making its way through the legislative process.
As we continue to hold meetings on this bill, I become increasingly thankful for the great workers in our state government concerned for the safety and security of our children.
The Expedite Child Safety and Permanency Bill would clarify our existing rules in the sphere of child welfare, establish a statewide CPS hotline, and help provide safe and appropriate placement for children in need of health services.
H273 the "Modify Builders Inventory Tax Exclusion" Bill passed the Senate this week (40-10). This bill will exclude property taxation for up to three years and any increase in value of residential real property attributable to new townhouse construction when held for sale by a builder.
I had the opportunity this week to sit down with four essay contest winners from the Office of the Lt. Governor. These four students across the state were chosen by Lt. Governor Mark Robinson for their essay “What Does it Mean to be a North Carolinian?”
One of the contest winners was a young man from my district, Nate Everhart. We have shared his essay with you all below, please give it a read. Congratulations to Nate and all our contest winners, you make our whole state proud!
I also had the privilege of meeting another great North Carolinian this week who stopped by the legislature, Dale Earnhardt Jr.
As always thank you to our numerous constituents who continue to write, call, or email our office. I will never stop fighting for you.
Senator Steve Jarvis
NC District 29
