Boutique owner hopes expo will help others

Boutique owner hopes expo will help others

If networking, business coaching and motivational speaking are high on your list of priorities there is an upcoming event that includes all that and more. On Saturday, August 21, Serenity’s Closet will host ‘Serenity’s Pop-Up Shop and Business Expo’ at Twelve West Main (name of venue and address are the same) in Thomasville from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. It will be presented by Lindsay Holt, owner of Serenity’s Closet, RNDG LLC and Underworld Music Group. There is no cost to attend.

Holt founded Serenity’s Closet in 2019. Initially, her business model was rooted in helping others navigate the troubles of life.

“It was birthed out of depression due to things that occurred in my life. I went through some obstacles and told myself, when I got over them that I knew I was strong enough to help others. Originally, Serenity’s Closet was going to be a building where people who were going through depression and other mental health problems could meet, talk or do whatever it was necessary to release our emotions. I wanted it to have different rooms where people could pray or a room with different sound effects that produced peace.”

Sticking with her plan A proved to be difficult. Holt referred to her past being a hinderance to securing a “good, paying job.” However, a welcomed act of kindness shifted her thought process regarding the path she would take to achieve her goal.

“A lady name Mikki Liles chose me to do a makeover. We were talking and she told about her life as an entrepreneur. There were a lot of boutiques. I told her I want to be different so she suggested I sell shoes and accessories. I started my online store as a side hustle which is now my legal business. It’s helping me pave the way until I’m able to get my physical spot for Serenity’s Closet and put my original plan into effect.”

Currently, the website is undergoing an upgrade as Holt focuses on writing a book about her experiences and life. Since the business is still operational, Holt has organized the pop-up shop and expo to allow others to connect in a professional setting.

A total of 38 vendors, from across the state, will be in attendance. Items for purchase will include clothing, homemade body scrubs, handmade crafts and healthcare uniforms. There will also food, wine, mimosas, door prizes and a live DJ.

As a business owner, it’s important to Holt to constantly be in a state of learning. Throughout the day, motivational speakers will provide the small business owners with tips. Business coach Nefertiria Toussaint, who is known as the ‘Bizness Plug,’ is coming to share her knowledge with attendees.

While last minute prep continues, Holt is anticipating a great day of fellowship, collaboration and fun.

“I would love for everyone to come out, network, learn and have a good time.”
