Dear Friends,

The State Budget is back in the Senate as we start conferencing to decide how we will allocate the $25.7 billion in tax payer dollars. The goal is to vote on the final budget by September 9th.

This week, the North Carolina House passed Senate Bill 693: Expedite Child Permanency. This bill will clarify existing rules in relation to child welfare. It will also provide appropriate help for those children who are in need of healthcare. Thank you to everyone that has put effort into getting this bill to the governors desk.

Also below is a county by county map of the 2020 Census Population Data. Davidson County sits at a population of 168,930 while Montgomery County is at 25,751.

H489 the "Building Code and Reg. Reform" Bill passed the Senate this week (75-17). This bill will standardize sedimentation and erosion control practices. It will also help to speed up the time it takes for the NCDOT to accept new subdivision roads and to clarify an important accessory dwelling unit requirement.

S316 the "General Contractor Reform" Bill passed through the House this week as well. This bill provides the opportunity for subcontracting without a general contractor license in this case of small plumbing, electrical and HVAC projects. In essence, this reduces cost and makes it easier for the homeowner as they will only be dealing with one contractor.

The western part of the state, especially Canton, has been under a deluge of flooding. Please keep these areas in your thought and prayers as they start to assess the damage done.

As always think you to our numerous constituents who continue to write, call, or email our office. I will never stop fighting for you.
