From Sen. Jarvis' Senate Desk: September 10, 2021
Dear Friends,
This week the North Carolina Senate addressed legislation which would address the powers of the Executive Branch by passing House Bill 264. This bill would limit the power of current and future Governors of North Carolina by giving power to the Council of State during an emergency declaration. The bill will be returned to the NC House of Representatives.
The NC Senate has also passed legislation to make the HOPE Rental Assistance Program which would require the program to cover hotel costs for eligible families.
The legislation directs state and local administrators to allow landlords to submit aid applications on behalf of tenants.
President Joe Biden has also declared a disaster declaration for three counties in Western North Carolina because of Hurricane Fred. Please continue to pray for the citizens of WNC as they continue to recover from this catastrophic hurricane and flooding.
Earlier this week I was honored to attend the groundbreaking of the newest Thomasville Aquatic Center in Davidson County and meet with the City Council of Thomasville. This new building will revitalize our great city and help provide a meeting place for friends, families and loved ones.
I also met with Congressman Richard Hudson who visited the General Assembly. Thank you, Congressman Hudson, for your tremendous work for the people of Montgomery County. I hope you all will also join me in wishing my colleague Senator Michael Lazzara and Legislative Assistant Suzanne Castleberry a very happy birthday!
Lastly, this weekend I will attend several 9/11 memorial ceremonies in our district. Please join me in saying a prayer for the terrible losses suffered on that tragic day 20 years ago. We will NEVER forget 9/11!
As always thank you to our numerous constituents who continue to write, call, or email our office. I will never stop fighting for you.
Senator Steve Jarvis,
NC District 29
