Never Forget: A youth perspective

Never Forget: A youth perspective

I’ve always heard people ask each other, “Hey, can you remember what you were doing or where you were on 9/11?” As for me, I’m only 13 so I wasn’t born yet to have an answer to that question. But, based on stories and different ceremonies I’ve been to over the years, I’ve learned it was a day we will “Never Forget.” Saturday morning at Sechrest-Davis Funeral Home in Thomasville there was a twentieth anniversary service that had everyone stopping to remember.

The flag that was used for the service flew over Shanksville, Pa. after the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 on 9/11/2001. There were many elected officials, along with police and firefighters, in attendance. A moment of silence was observed at both 8:46 and 9:03 as these were the times each tower was struck.

Congressman Ted Budd delivered a heartwarming speech about some of the heroes on that day. His message really emphasized how we will “Never Forget.” As the service was coming to a close, the Jamestown Pipes and Drums played a montage of patriotic music that had everyone truly reflecting on everything that unfolded on that day. Even though this wasn’t something I experienced in 2001, it’s still something I will “Never Forget” and neither should any other American!
