Lexington Middle School students return to class today
Numerous parents of students that attend Lexington Middle School have contacted Davidson Local with concerns and comments pertaining to the ongoing construction at Lexington Middle School, which has already delayed the start of the 2024 school year for students that attend the school by one full week. Fortunately, the wait is over as eager students return to school on Monday, August 19th, after an extended summer vacation. An orientation was held last Thursday to familiarize both parents and students with the details of the new school year, in spite of what still appears to be a major construction zone outside of the school.
Davidson Local contacted Lexington City Schools for an update on the construction and to verify the return of Lexington Middle School students and we received the following response.
Original Start Date Confirmation:
Lexington Middle School was originally scheduled to open on August 12, 2024. However, due to unforeseen delays in ongoing renovations, the start date has been postponed to Monday, August 19, to ensure a safe environment for students and staff.
Superintendent's Statement:
"The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, which is why we have made the decision to delay the start of the school year for Lexington Middle School. The unforeseen delays in the renovations were due to the need to finish classrooms to ensure a safe learning space where students can truly thrive. Our construction team is working diligently to complete the necessary work, and we are committed to opening the school on Monday, August 19th. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time and are excited to welcome our students back to a safe and inspiring learning environment. Families and students participated in the Open House on August 16th, where they had the opportunity to meet teachers and learn more about what to expect this year. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us ensure that our students thrive in the hive."
