NC DMV unveils self-serve kiosks
North Carolina residents can now renew a vehicle registration at self-service kiosks provided by the Department of Motor Vehicles at a few initial locations. The North Carolina DMV is beginning with three kiosks across the state, including one in Charlotte, Raleigh and Fayetteville. The kiosks are intended to provide a less stressful experience for certain DMV services.
Before, kiosk users could only renew or duplicate a driver’s licenses or ID, or register to vote. Officials announced on Monday, Aug. 12th that services would expand at the kiosks and that additional kiosks will be added in various locations around the state. Many residents are eagerly awaiting word of when and where they will be provided.
Kiosk users can renew vehicle registrations and pay property taxes on new vehicles and at the end of the transaction, the kiosk will print a license plate sticker and registration card.
“I am excited to announce these new services are now available as part of our kiosk pilot,” NCDMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin said. “This is another example of the work we are doing to shorten lines and wait times by using technology to modernize our customer service and provide more options for customers to get what they need in a timely manner.”
In an effort to shorten lines and wait times at offices across the state, and to provide services outside of typical office hours, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is piloting the use of self-service kiosks in grocery stores.
NCDMV Express self-service kiosks are now available at the following Harris Teeter locations:
The Corners at Brier Creek - 4221 Corners Parkway, Raleigh
Riverbend Village - 4701 Smith Farm Road, Charlotte
Highland Centre - 2800 Raeford Road, Fayetteville
Please note: Kiosks will be unavailable Sundays midnight to noon due to maintenance.

NCDMV plans to add seven additional kiosks in 2024. More kiosks may be added if certain transaction thresholds are achieved.
