With 36-plus category winners for the 2023 North Carolina Brewers Cup Competition, Goose and Monkey Brewhouse feels honored to have taken part. A total of 873 entries were submitted by 122 independent North Carolina craft breweries making this year’s competition the largest to date, as well as the largest single state commercial competition in the U.S. Southeast.

Goose and Monkey Brewhouse won the Silver Medal in the North Carolina Brewers Cup Competition American Amber Lager Category for Seductive Mullet. This is the first state medal for owners Brent and Ashlee Moore. The GMBH team previously won Carolina's Championship of Beer, the World Beer Cup and the Great American Beer Festival.

Seductive Mullet

Described as malt-forward amber lager, with notes of caramel and toffee, it’s GMBH's take on a Vienna lager. Hopped with traditional Bavarian hops, Seductive Mullet is a fan favorite!

Brent called the win amazing. “This award is different because it is our first state medal and to be recognized with breweries from all over the state was kind of mind-boggling. We were able to celebrate the Seductive Mullet win with our team at the awards banquet as well as our friends in the North Carolina brewing industry,” Brent wrote. “We were able to celebrate with the other North Carolina Brewers Cup winners on November 14 at the tenth Annual North Carolina Brewers Guild Conference in Winston-Salem. We love our North Carolina Beer Family and celebrating with all of the other winners was one heck of a time.”

GMBH extended a special thanks for local support. “This award is important to us because of our amazing supportive community! If it wasn't for their support and love for the Mullet, we would not have kept it in the brew rotation,” Brent explained. “We are still a young brewery and for us to have the Seductive Mullet bring home a silver in our home state is pretty awesome! Now we aim to bring home the gold in one of the categories next year.”

This marked the twelfth anniversary of the NC Brewers Cup Competition. According to its website, “the North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild is a 501 (c) (6) not-for-profit advocacy group supporting the independent craft brewers of our state through advocacy and education. North Carolina has over 420 independent craft breweries and brewpubs, each one serving as a local gathering spot for their communities. Our breweries have become part of the fabric of your towns and cities. North Carolina is truly the State of Southern Beer™.”
