Johnny Leroy Dawkins Jr. Scholarship Fund annual fundraiser
For the past 11 years the Johnny Leroy Dawkins Jr Scholarship Fund has raised funds to provide scholarships in the honor of our late loved one, Johnny Leroy Dawkins Jr, who was murdered in 2008 as a result of gun violence. The annual fish fry has become our signature fundraising event. The community looks forward to the fish fry each year. As a result of the fundraiser we have been able to award 2-3 scholarships annually in the amount of $500 each, awarding over $12,000 in scholarships. Our mission is to continue to honor the legacy of our loved one by providing scholarship awards to males - African American, Indigenous, and People of Color - upon graduating high school for the purpose of pursuing a higher education while joining the fight against gun violence.
Our goal this year is to finally double the funds raised from previous years. The goal is $6500. All funds will go towards scholarship awards and planning for future programs.
