It's pesto day at the Lexington Farmers Market

It is pesto day at the Lexington Farmers Market at the Depot.

Pesto is a flavorful, bright green sauce that originated in Genoa, Italy and is typically made with basil, pine nuts, olive oil, garlic and a hard cheese like parmesan. The word "pesto" comes from the Genoese verb "pestare," which means "to crush."

Chef John Wilson will be making his version and offering pesto samples at the Depot today at 10 a.m. Also, there will be a pesto challenge where guest chefs will vote on the best submission (entries are closed as of September 12th). The winner will receive $30 Depot Dollars.
Come get your favorite produce, meats, dairy, eggs, baked goods, and artisan crafts! Special products are continuing to come in as the season progresses into fall. Seek out the goat cheese, lamb, turkey, pepper jelly, autumn flowers, soups, and more - you'll be glad you made the most out of this unique time of the year at the market Enjoy the live music of Kelly Jackson as you shop!.

Mark your calendars for October 5th, when the Lexington Farmers Market holds a special Farm Fest at Bull City Ciderworks from 4-9 p.m. It will be an amazing day filled with games, music and a delicious dinner prepared by Chef Tyleata Jones of JJ's Mama's Soulfood & More, purchase tickets here.
50/50 tickets will be available at the Depot starting this Saturday.

At Farm Fest, a winner will be picked that wins half of the pot.
