Our Story

In 2008 our family experienced one of the greatest tragedies we would ever face. Our loved one, Johnny Leroy Dawkins Jr., was tragically killed due to gun violence. He was only 25 years old.

In an effort to encourage African American males and other minorities to seek a higher education rather than succumbing to the violent pressures of society, our family started this scholarship program which began in 2010.

During our first 10 years, prior to being established as a non-profit 501c3, we received support from family, friends and the community with our annual fish fry fundraiser allowing us to award over $10,000 in scholarship awards. Each award given was $500 with $1000 - $1500 awarded each year.

Now as an established non-profit organization it is our goal to more than double our previous years record. In order to accomplish this goal we invite you to join us in this great cause. We request your financial support as well as ask that you spread the word. We can't do this on our own but we know that with us all rallying together we can make this effort a success! It brings our family great joy to honor our loved one by making a difference in someone else's life and we thank you for being a part.

We encourage you to donate, share and join us as we take a stand against gun violence!
