Press Release: Lexington Senior High School Girls’ Basketball Makes History with Regular Season and Conference Tournament Championship Wins
The Lexington Senior High School girls’ basketball team has achieved a historic milestone, securing their first-ever regular season conference championship and recently winning the conference tournament championship. This achievement is a testament to the team's dedication, hard work, and the unity they've built throughout the season.
The team’s path to victory began long before the season started. During the summer, the team trained at four elite basketball camps, including NC State, Elon University, and the prestigious Dawn Staley Camp, where they honed their skills and strengthened their team chemistry. These camps focused not just on developing skills but on building a strong sense of teamwork, bonding, and individual growth. Through personalized coaching and hard work, the team came together as a unified force, preparing them for the challenges ahead.
“This season, we really became a family,” said Head Coach Robert Hairston. “The bond we formed this summer laid the foundation for our success and gave us the strength to pursue this championship.”
In the championship game that secured their regular season title, the atmosphere in the gym was electric. The crowd’s energy was contagious, especially when Jalen Cowan hit three consecutive three-pointers, giving the team a significant boost. This moment ignited the support of fans and showcased the team's skill and determination. Following this achievement, they continued their success by winning the conference tournament championship, further solidifying their historic season.
“The support we had during the championship game was incredible,” Coach Hairston shared. “It’s inspiring to see how the community is showing up for these athletes. This win is a reflection of our collective effort and belief in the team.”
The championship victories symbolize the team’s growth, perseverance, and belief in themselves. They have energized the entire school community, demonstrating the power of teamwork and determination. The impact of this success extends beyond the court, as former players, like Leslie Ramos, have reached out to share how the lessons learned in the program continue to serve them in college and beyond.
“This is about more than basketball. It’s about teaching life skills that our players will carry with them throughout their lives,” Coach Hairston added. “We’re proud of this team, and we know they’ll continue to make a difference.”
The support from the school board, Superintendent Dr. Nakia Hardy, Principal Dr. Jermaine Porter, and Athletic Director Benjamin Robinson has been instrumental in this achievement, reflecting the collective commitment to fostering excellence in our student-athletes.
But the journey doesn’t end here. The team now moves on to the NCHSAA playoffs as the #7 seed after their impressive victory in the conference tournament and will host Salisbury High School in the first round on Tuesday, February 25, at 6:00 PM.
We need everyone in the stands to bring the energy and cheer on our girls as they continue their historic run. Let’s pack the gym and show them that Lexington is behind them all the way!
