Lexington City Schools is thrilled to unveil the latest developments in its administrative team with the approval of new appointments and interim positions, all aimed at elevating the quality of education and fostering smooth transitions within the district. These strategic changes align seamlessly with the district's ongoing commitment to provide engaging and caring educational environments to all students.  

Appointment of Jermaine Porter as Principal of Lexington Senior High School

The Board of Education has enthusiastically approved the appointment of Jermaine Porter as the new principal of Lexington Senior High School. With an accomplished 20-year career in education, Porter brings a wealth of experience to this pivotal role. Holding a Master's degree from Gardner Webb University, his expertise extends across six years of school administration and an additional five years in district-level administrative positions, particularly in equity leadership and Human Resources. Porter's educational journey began  in 2002 as a teacher and has evolved through a series of impactful roles, culminating in this leadership position. The appointment is accompanied by a three-year contract, underscoring the district's steadfast commitment to stable leadership that steers our students toward success.

Dr. Hardy, Superintendent of Lexington City Schools, expresses her excitement about Porter's appointment, stating, "I am genuinely thrilled about the appointment of Jermaine Porter as our new High School Principal. His extensive experience and unwavering dedication to education truly stand out. The exact start date for Mr. Porter will be announced at a later time."

This strategic appointment reflects Lexington City Schools' unwavering dedication to providing exceptional leadership that fosters the holistic development of our students.

Promotion of Katiana Desgrottes as Interim Principal at Charles England Elementary School

Lexington City Schools has proudly approved the promotion of Katiana Desgrottes to interim principal at Charles England Elementary School. With previous experience as an assistant principal at the school and a decade in education, Ms. Desgrottes brings valuable expertise to her new leadership role.

A High Point University graduate with a Masters in School Administration, Ms. Desgrottes' energy and focus on school culture and academics align perfectly with the continued growth of Charles England Elementary School.

Dr. Nakia Hardy, Superintendent of Lexington City Schools, emphasized the district's commitment to promoting from within, stating, "Ms. Desgrottes' dedication to student success and school growth embodies our vision."

Lexington City Schools looks forward to the positive impact Ms. Desgrottes will bring to Charles England Elementary School as she assumes her new role.

Principal Transitions Unveiled

During the LCS Board of Education meeting, Dr. Hardy announced upcoming principal transfers within Lexington City Schools. Ms. Jihan Harvey, who has commendably led Pickett Elementary for the past two school years, will transition to the role of principal at Southwest Elementary Global School. Additionally, Dr. Judy Richards, with impactful leadership at the South Lexington School / Developmental Learning Center this past year, will take the reins at Pickett Elementary School.

These strategic transitions reflect Lexington City Schools' commitment to optimizing leadership placements and providing excellent education for every student.

Interim Principal Appointment for South Lexington School

LCS is excited to welcome back two retired principals, Gina Spencer and Jackie Miller, to temporarily lead South Lexington School and Developmental Center as interim principals.  Superintendent Hardy added “ I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to our retired principals, Gina Spencer and Jackie Miller, for their invaluable contributions throughout this pivotal transitional period. Their steadfast commitment has played a pivotal role in ensuring these transitions are not only seamless but also deeply impactful”

The effective date for the interim appointments and transfers will be August 14, 2023.

The administrative landscape for the upcoming school year is poised to be dynamic and impactful, driven by a sense of unity and purpose. The team comprises:

  • Jermaine Porter: Principal at Lexington Senior High School 

  • Joseph Stone: Principal at Lexington Middle School 

  • Dr. Judy Richards: Principal at Pickett Elementary School

  • Jihan Harvey: Principal at Southwest Elementary Global Academy

  • Katiana Desgrottes: Interim Principal at Charles England Elementary School

  • Jackie Miller and Gina Spencer: Interim Principals at South Lexington School and Developmental Center
