Ledford teacher suspended following posts on white board including racial slur

According to information released from Davidson County Schools administration, a Ledford High School teacher has been suspended, with pay, pending an investigation into what the teacher wrote, and left posted, on a whiteboard in his classroom.

Witnesses, including several students, and administrators have reported the teacher had written a racial slur, the name of a hate group, and a vulgar term on the white board in his classroom. The teacher reportedly told a parent that he had written them as part of a lesson in his first period class, but a student saw the writing in a third period class and was so upset he contacted his parent. The teacher allegedly said he had not had time to erase them after first period.

The administration contacted parents by phone to apologize and to say that there will be a full investigation of the incident and steps taken to make sure it does not happen again. In a statement released Monday, the administration said:

“Leadership in Davidson County Schools finds this abhorrent, appalling, and unacceptable in any of our classrooms. This is not reflective of the environment of respect and inclusiveness we expect for students and staff alike.

Administration will conduct a thorough investigation and take steps to appropriately address the situation and to prevent future occurrences.

We sincerely apologize to students, parents, staff, and community members.”

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
