Press Release: Thomasville police arrest Trinity man in abduction of local minor
Detectives with Thomasville police have charged a Trinity man with abduction of a minor child after family reported her disappearance to police.
On Thursday, February 8 at 7:07 p.m., Thomasville officers responded to the 800 block of Trinity Street in reference to a missing person. Family members reported a 16-year-old Thomasville High School female student had not come home from school Thursday afternoon.
Detectives uncovered information that led them to believe the minor child was in the company of a 53-year-old man who was not a relative but an acquaintance of the family. TPD Detectives broadcasted the man’s vehicle description throughout multiple states.
On Friday, February 9, a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper located the vehicle traveling on I-95 in Johnston County, NC. The Trooper initiated a traffic stop and located the minor child in the vehicle. The driver, Lawrence Nathaniel Chandler, 53, of Trinity, was taken into custody without incident. Lawrence was served with a warrant for abduction of child and is currently in the Davidson County jail under a $45,000 secured bond. The minor child was not injured and has since been reunited with family.
Detectives are not releasing any other details of the incident as the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
