Lexington Farmers Market expands SNAP EBT program

The Lexington Farmers Market will continue its “Double Your Dollars” program for recipients of SNAP EBT (also known as food stamps) benefits. For every SNAP dollar,  customers will receive $2 in tokens to spend with vendors. Recipients can double up to  $20 of SNAP benefits per day. “The pandemic supply chain issues made local foods  more cost competitive, but the Double Your Dollars program is another way to help  ensure everyone, regardless of income, can enjoy fresh and local food,” says Kivi Miller,  president of the Lexington Farmers Market.

In 2022, due to grant requirements, the Double Your Dollars program was limited to fruit and vegetable purchases. This year, the Lexington Farmers Market raised funds  through its Farm Fest event in October 2022 and other sources to expand the program  to all SNAP-eligible foods including meat, eggs, dairy, baked goods, and food-producing  plants such as tomato plants and herbs.

To use the program, customers should see the market manager on duty to swipe their  cards. SNAP EBT will be accepted at any Lexington Farmers Market location.

The Lexington Farmers Market is a 100% PRODUCERS' only market, which means  the people who sell the product are the ones who grew, raised, or produced the  product you are purchasing. The market is limited to certified growers who live within  Davidson County or the surrounding counties of Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, or Rowan counties. All new vendors are subject to inspection  and certification by their county Cooperative Extension.
