Lexington hosts 2nd Annual Black History Celebration

The City of Lexington held its 2nd Annual Black History Celebration on Sunday, February 5 outside of City Hall. Banners hanging from the building feature various individuals who were grouped into categories including Historical Educators and Principals, Ward Formation, Past and Present City Councilors, Community Leaders, Business History, the first 10 Black students to integrate Lexington City Schools, Faith Leaders and Black Sororities and Fraternities. Honorees (representatives were present for some who weren’t in attendance or had passed) were recognized by standing when their names were called. A rose was presented to them.

The program featured a selection by the praise team for New Faith Full Gospel Fellowship Church, a solo by Kim Britt, speakers from the sororities and fraternities, a performance from ‘Master Christopher’, a step show and the crowd participating in the singing of the Negro National Anthem ‘Lift Ev’ry Voice & Sing.’ Vendors were also present.
