Corey D. Buggs, Esquire passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

The memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 6th at 3 pm at Files Chapel Baptist Church 900 Dixie Street, Lexington with family visitation at 2 pm.

Obituary:

Our Father, who is all wise and omnipotent, called Corey D. Buggs, Esq. from labor to rest, Thursday, February 1, 2024. He was born June 20, 1969 in Davidson County. Corey was the son of Lesley Alexander Snuggs and Margaret Buggs.

Corey was a graduate of Lexington Senior High School and played football on 1985/1986 championship team. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina and furthered his studies by receiving his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He worked with the IBM Corporation, General Electric Company, Duke Power Company as a Law Clerk, an Intern at District Attorney's Office in Forsyth County, North Carolina Prosecutorial District 21, Wachovia Corporation as a Law Clerk. For six years, Corey worked in the District Attorney's Office for Alexander, Davidson, Davie and Iredell Counties as Assistant District Attorney and was the first African American Assistant District Attorney for North Carolina Prosecutorial District 22. Attorney Buggs worked as an associate at Biesecker, Tripp, Sink & Fritts, LLP in Lexington until December 2006 when he opened The Law Offices of Corey D. Buggs, PLLC.

Corey was a lifelong member of Files Chapel Baptist Church and served as a trustee, financial secretary, treasury of corporate board and former youth director. Attorney Buggs received many honors, served on numerous boards and associations: Eta Kappa Nu, Electrical Engineering Honor Society, National Society of Black Engineers, William M. Cates Scholarship, Phi Delta Phi, Legal Fraternity, Black Law Student Association, Wake Forest University School of Law Trail Bar, North Carolina Board Association, Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Council board member, Salvation Army Advisory Board Member, Boys and Girls of America Advisory Board Chairman, Davidson County Board of Health, Wake Forest Baptist Health Lexington Medical Center Foundation Board, ABC Board- City of Lexington Chairman, Project Potential Board of Director Vice-Chairman, Single Stop Program at Davidson-Davie County Community College, Eta Beta Beta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and member of Acacia Lodge #66.

Corey has finished his life's journey and joined his parents; grandparents, Will Buggs and Mary Alice Richards Buggs and a special uncle, Will Buggs, Jr.

A life well-lived and loved will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, Sophie Wood Buggs; his son, Will D. Buggs; his bonus children, Nasheed "Zia" Peoples and NaQuia "Bella" Wood; four sisters: Carmen Cotton, Helen Ferguson, Tanyel Chaney and Jasmine (Steven) Henry; a brother, Jamall Steel; a special cousin who was like brother, Raynard Horton; two uncles, Alfonzo (Modestine) Richards and Calvin (Reverend Judy) Richards; great uncle, Bobby (Mary Ann) Richards; three sisters-in-law: Marquita Wood, Vera Small and Bridget (Kenneth) Well; brother-in-law, Desmond Cade; two god children, Xavier Wall and Kennedi Cade; a special cousin, Patricia King and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be Tuesday at Files Chapel Baptist Church at 3:00pm with family visitation at 2:00pm.
