During Monday’s City Council meeting, Finance Director John Overton and the dedicated workforce in the Finance Department were recognized because Lexington’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020, qualified for a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association. Judged by a nationwide impartial panel to ensure it meets the high standards, the program is designed to provide a ‘spirit of full disclosure of the City’s financial report.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Out of 90,075 cities, counties, and school districts throughout the United States, only 3,159 or 3.5% received this prestigious award in the most recently published award program year.

The City of Lexington’s Finance Department staff has attained the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for twenty-nine consecutive years.
