#LocalElectionsMatter: Meet us at the Board of Elections on May 13th and 14th.

Op-ed:

We believe in supporting Local Matters! So, Davidson Local is heading to the Board of Elections to greet early voters on May 13th and May 14th with non-partisan information.

The Davidson County BOE receives the most early voting traffic but turnout is slow. We were told that voting at the BOE can be intimidating.

It doesn’t have to be!

After a heated debate surrounding state-wide boundaries, Davidson County will see one of the most heavily contested series of local government races in more than a decade. Lexington ward maps were redrawn for Lexington city seats, also impacting school board elections. You could be in a new district.

CHECK WHICH SAMPLE BALLOT YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR

The Lexington Mayoral race went uncontested for several terms but this year will bring change to the top spot. Well-known local candidates seek the seat currently held by mayor Newell Clark. After several forums, some say that housing, education and economic development ideas widely separate the candidates.

There are currently several options for the municipal elections. They include early and election day voting. Lexington Municipal contests will be decided on May 17th. County primaries will take place the same day and will be decided on Election Day - November 8th. Confused? Well so are some of the candidates.

Officials say it’s important to pay close attention to all voting deadlines.

This video with Andrew Richards, Director of the Davidson County BOE and youth correspondent Riley Elliott will help:
