Local events in celebration of Black History Month
Black History Month is a time to celebrate the contributions of an amazing culture.
This month we not only want to remember and recognize the countless achievements of the African-American community, we also want to cherish them.
It’s important to acknowledge the bounty that the African-American culture has contributed to the world as a whole. It is also necessary to salute a culture that is rooted in resilience.
From being the architects of this nation to acknowledging the countless masterful inventions, the contributions are undeniable.
Thus, we bring to your attention some local events in Davidson County to commemorate and enjoy this Black History Month month and always.

Black History Month Celebration - Saturday February 17, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Lexington Senior High School gymnasium located at 26 Penry Street in Lexington. The program will feature;
Keynote speaker Rev. Alan Suber of Faith-Forward Baptist Church
Music by the Files Chapel Baptist Church Choir
A Liturgical dance performed by Makia Cade of The Union Baptist Church Dance Ministry
Special appearance by local artist Kenrick Jobe
Artwork from the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. youth art gallery and exhibition by Anything For Our Youth Group of Lexington and much more. Doors will open to the public at 2 pm and the program will begin at 2:30 PM.

Black History Month Art Invitational - 202 North Main Street on Sunday February 18, 2024 beginning at 5:00 PM. Haven’t you heard that a picture is worth a thousand words? This art invitational will have the best local artist displaying their original works of art in recognition of Black History Month.

Performance: Empowered, Brilliant and Brave; Great Women of Black History -
Monday February 19, 2024 at Noon. Located at Reich Auditorium in Thomasville. Davidson-Davie Community College is hosting an event that recognizes powerful women of African-American heritage. Meet some of Black History’s most inspiring female figures in this special show that highlights some of the world’s most amazing women. Crunch some hidden figures with Dorothy Vaughan. Follow along the Underground Railroad with Harriet Tubman. Celebrate the Jazz Age with Ella Fitzgerald. Plus meet incredible groundbreakers like Michelle Obama, Sojourner Truth, Serena Williams and many, many more amazing women from Black History.
