Arts Davidson County is seeking artists to submit artwork to their next local gallery show.

Mystery, Magic, Myths and Legends

Artist Advocate Member Exhibition

Show Description:

Embark on a journey where ancient myths and enchanting tales of magic come alive through art. We invite artists to explore and interpret the themes of "Mystery, Magic, Myths, and Legends" for our upcoming exhibition.

Discover the allure of mystical landscapes, mythical creatures, and legendary heroes as depicted through diverse artistic mediums. Whether you capture the haunting beauty of eerie landscapes or the whimsical charm of fantastical beings, we welcome submissions that delve into cultural folklore and fantasy.

This exhibition celebrates the universal fascination with the unknown and invites artists to breathe new life into age-old stories. Through your paintings, sculptures, and mixed media creations, uncover hidden truths and timeless mysteries that resonate through the ages.

Join us in exploring the realms where reality meets myth and imagination knows no bounds. Submit your artwork to "Mystery, Magic, Myths, and Legends" and be part of a showcase that sparks imagination and invites viewers to delve deeper into the extraordinary.

Rules and Guidelines:

  • Eligibility:  

    • Open exclusively to our active Artist Advocate Members.  If you’re not a member yet, join our creative community to be a part of this exciting opportunity.

    • Each artist may submit up to five pieces for consideration, and curators have the flexibility to select any number, up to a maximum of five, for inclusion in the exhibition.

    • Submissions must be original works created by the artist.

    • All 2-D and 3-D work must be “Exhibition Ready” upon delivery.  If not adequately prepared for display, artwork will be withdrawn from the exhibition. 

    • All work must be available for sale.  ADC will sell the artwork at the price set by the artist for a 25% commission fee.  Payment to the artist will be made at the end of the gallery showing.

  • Theme: 

    • Artwork submissions must align with the theme of “Mystery, Magic, Myths, and Legends." Artists are encouraged to delve into the mysterious, magical, and mythical elements of autumn, from eerie landscapes to fantastical creatures and scenes.

  • Mediums: 

    • All artistic forms are embraced, from traditional paintings and drawings to sculptures, photography, digital art, and mixed media creations. Additionally, we invite performance art and literary expressions, ensuring a diverse and inclusive showcase of creativity.

    •  We celebrate diversity in artistic expression.

  • Submission Guidelines:

    • Each artist may submit up to five pieces for consideration

    • Submissions must be original works created by the artist

    • Arts Davidson County reserves the right to refuse any submission that it deems unacceptable

  • Submission Process:

    • Please email high-resolution images of your artwork to amanda@artsdavidsoncounty.org

    • Include the title, dimensions, and medium of each submitted piece in the email.

    • Include your full name, phone number, and preferred email address in your submission email for effective communication.

    •  While not obligatory, artists are encouraged to provide a brief artist statement for each submission. These statements are an opportunity to share insights into your creative process, the inspiration behind your work, and the narrative embedded within each piece.  If provided, artist statements may be displayed alongside the selected artwork during the exhibition.

    • Upon successful submission, artists will receive a confirmation email acknowledging receipt of their entries.

  • Size and Installation:

    • Artwork should be suitable for display in a gallery setting.

    • 2D artwork must be framed and ready for hanging with secure wire attachments.

    • No clip mounting or saw tooth hangers will be accepted.

    • 2D artwork maximum size 48” width  x 60” height

    • Sculptures or 3D installations should be stable and appropriate for floor or pedestal display and may weigh no more than 200lbs.

  • Submission Deadline: 

    • All entries must be submitted by Friday, August 30, 2024. 

    • Late submissions will not be considered.

  • Selection Process: 

    • The exhibition curators will review all submissions and select works based on artistic merit, adherence to the theme, and overall cohesiveness of the exhibition.  

    • Artists may submit a maximum of five pieces for consideration, and curators have the flexibility to select any number, up to a maximum of five, for inclusion in the exhibition.

    • Artists whose works are selected for the exhibition will be notified by Monday, September 2, 2024.

  • Delivery and Collection of Accepted Art: 

    • Selected artists are responsible for delivering their artwork on the designated dates/times to:

  •  Late work will not be accepted.

  • Artwork must be collected by Friday, November 8, 2024 at the end of the exhibition.

  • Works left for more than 30 days after the pick-up date will become the property of Arts Davidson County,

Opening Reception: 

Join us for the grand unveiling on Saturday, September 7 1pm - 6pm. This exclusive event will provide a platform for artists to engage with fellow creators and art enthusiasts. "Mystery, Magic, Myths, and Legends" promises to bring together diverse interpretations and artistic styles, celebrating the richness of global heritage and the universal fascination with the unknown.  Artists are encouraged to seize the opportunity to attend and actively participate in the reception associated with the exhibition. Your presence will enrich the event and provide a chance to engage with fellow artists and art enthusiasts.  We look forward to unveiling the unique perspectives that each artist brings to this dynamic exhibition. Join us on this artistic journey as we explore the world through the eyes of our creative community.

Exhibit Timeframe:

The  "Mystery, Magic, Myths, and Legends" exhibition will be on display from September 7 to November 8, inviting art enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the diverse creations of our talented community members.

  • Gallery Hours:

    • The gallery doors will be open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11 AM to 3 PM, offering ample opportunities for visitors to explore the captivating artworks.

    • Additionally, the gallery is open by appointment, providing flexibility for those with different schedules or specific preferences.

  • Volunteer Opportunities:

    • We encourage our Arts Davidson County community members to consider volunteering in our gallery during the exhibition. Your involvement will contribute to the smooth operation of the event, ensuring a welcoming and engaging experience for visitors. 

    • Why Volunteer your time during the exhibition?

      • Direct Engagement:  Volunteering allows artists to engage directly with visitors, sharing insights into their creative process and establishing a personal connection with the audience.

      • Community Building: Volunteering contributes to the sense of community within the arts organization, fostering connections with other artists, gallery staff, and visitors. This sense of community support can positively impact an artist's career and overall artistic experience.
