Local organizations will co-sponsor 9/11 memorial event
Timing of memorial will coincide with times of significant events on September 11, 2001
THOMASVILLE — Thomasville Public Library, along with Sechrest-Davis Funerals and Cremations, the Thomasville Fire, Police and EMS, and other Thomasville businesses and organizations, will come together in solemn remembrance of the twentieth anniversary of 9/11. The ceremony, set to take place in the parking lot of Sechrest Davis, 18 Randolph St., will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the lowering of a flag flown over Shanksville, PA, and the playing of Taps, followed by a color guard and flag procession. State and local representatives, along with special guest speaker Rep. Ted Budd will be present. Thomasville Police and Fire departments will lead the gathering in moments of silence at 8:46 and 9:02 followed by a flag retirement with the Girl and Boy Scouts of America. The event will include patriotic music selections such as the National Anthem. The Mount Zion Caroleers, the Jamestown Pipes and Drums, and a special children’s choir, formed specifically for this event, will perform.
