Man holds family captive in local home

On Thursday, July 11th, Deputies responded to a burglary in progress where the suspect was armed with a handgun at 210 Eastdale Dr in Lexington.

Upon Deputies arrival, they spoke with a male subject, David Miller, who stated he was inside of the residence at the time the suspect entered the home. David stated that a black male, wearing all black clothing, armed with a handgun, entered the residence and held him at gunpoint. David advised the suspect forced him to leave the residence at gunpoint however, two juvenile children and their mother, Shantay Redd, were forced to remain inside of the residence.

Deputies set up a perimeter around the home and began to attempt to contact Redd and her children for approximately one hour. Redd came to the side door of the residence and spoke with Deputies however, was not being allowed to exit the home, or allowed to have Deputies inside to ensure a hostage situation was not occurring and to check the wellbeing of her and the children. After approximately thirty minutes of negotiations, Redd opened the door allowing the children to exit the residence. The children attempted to reenter the residence however Deputies had to quickly make entry into the residence to prevent the children entering a possible hostage situation once again.

Once inside of the residence, Deputies located and confronted the suspect, Timothy Alston, where he was apprehended without further incident. Timothy is an ex-boyfriend of Redd. Timothy was arrested and booked into the Davidson County Jail where he was charged with three counts of 1st Degree Kidnapping, 2nd Degree Kidnapping, 1st Degree Burglary, Possession of a Firearm by Felon, two counts of Child Abuse and Assault on a Female.
