Meet our new intern: Calvin Carrick
Calvin Carrick is a soon to be 6th grader at Davidson Charter. This summer Davidson Local will host 3 new interns from Davidson County and Lexington City Schools. We hope readers will welcome them by sharing their stories.
Hello! My name is Calvin Carrick and I am one of the new interns at Davidson Local. I feel honored to be able to be part of the Davison Local team.
To begin, let me tell you a little bit about myself . This year I am going into the 6th grade, and I will be in middle school, which I’m a tiny bit skittish about. I’ve known Antionette for my whole life and when I first heard she was starting a newspaper I was so happy for her! And now that I’m a part of the team I’m truly enjoying it.
In the future I will be writing my own articles on Davidson Local’s website so make sure to check those out. In my articles I will mainly focus on Lexington from a teen’s point of view, as well as some of my favorite things to do here in Lexington, like going to the Farmers Market, Alive After 5, The Barbecue Festival, and many more!
Some things about me are that I enjoy listening to music (Paramore, The Smashing Pumpkins, Tyler The Creator , Lovejoy) and many more, all while sipping on a cold matcha latte from Perfect Blend. I also love watching scary movies, such as the Scream franchise.
My family and I live in Lexington in my great grandparents farmhouse. I have a newlywed sister who lives in New Jersey with her husband and their dog Joey. I have a two year old chonky golden retriever by the name of Arlo who is a good boy in training!
This summer I attended WFDD’s Radio Camp in Winston-Salem and it was a great experience that I would recommend to anyone who wants an enjoyable activity . When I grow up I want to become a barista and create an empire that overtakes Starbucks and Dunkin’ with my own business.
My favorite foods are spring rolls, ramen and extremely spicy chicken. One of my favorite social activities is to go skating on Friday nights with my friends at Axe Hole Friction Skating Rink. I also love playing video games such as Stardew Valley, The Legend Of Zelda and Minecraft.
At my old school, Southmont Elementary, I got to play a big part in supporting my community. We started two community service projects and currently hold the record for the most cans donated from our school. This year I participated in Battle of The Books and the All County Chorus Event.
I enjoy socializing with my friends frequently, especially because some of my friends are not going to the same middle school as me. I'm very glad to be able to hangout with them in hopes that our friendship will stay strong throughout middle school.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to get to know a little more about me. I am very passionate about playing an active role in future Davidson Local projects. Keep an eye out because you never know when you might see me around!
