The Multicultural Festival made its long awaited return to Lexington on Saturday, with returning favorites and new attractions. This was the 26th Annual Festival, and first one since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands showed up to check out over 50 booths in 5 cultural villages, 6 food vendors, and 22 local non-profit organizations.

The day began with the Parade of Nations, where performers and exhibitors walked from the Cultural Stage to the Main Stage while attendees cheered, took pictures, and enjoyed the different cultures represented. The two stages boasted 25 performances throughout the day, including the African American Dance Ensemble, Pasefika Polynesian Dance Fusion, Clan Lindsey Pipe Band, dancers from the Lumbee tribe, Lexington Cambodian Cultural Center, and much, much more.

Exhibits spanned the globe from Pakistan to Poland while also showcasing history closer to home. These booths educated about the history, traditions and customs, clothing, jewelry, and other aspects of the wonderful cultures that were represented.

Local favorites, Light of the World Church, were among the food vendors, serving up their famous tacos and street corn. Attendees could also munch on Teriyaki Chicken on a stick, Fresh Catch Seafood, Ethio - Indi Vegan Cuisine, and wash it down with some fresh lemonade from Bel'le Full Vending.

Kids were able to enjoy 7 different free inflatables, along with a 2 story rock wall. Two separate kids booths encouraged kids to showcase their art and coloring skills, and exhibits throughout the Festival encouraged kids to explore, participate, and be hands on with the cultures.

Weather put a damper to the end of the day and caused the Festival to end early, but couldn't prevent an amazing day full of the sights, sounds, and tastes from cultures around the world. Lexington Parks and Recreation would like to thank all of the performers, vendors, exhibitors, and attendees that made this Festival a success, and invite you to mark your calendars for May 6, 2023 for the 27th Annual Multicultural Festival.
