NCDMV fixes technical issues
The North Carolna Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) suspended operations at its driver’s license offices recently statewide due to issues with the state’s mainframe computers.
After experiencing intermittent connections to the mainframe computer on Wednesday, November 13th the NCDMV made the decision to halt all transactions at the 112 driver’s license offices until the issues were resolved.
The North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) is responsible for maintaining the mainframe computers.
According to the NCDMV, online services and self-service kiosks were also affected by sporadic outages, along with the license plate agencies managed by private contractors.
It was discovered that the matter stemmed from issues with the NCDIT's mainframe. As of 3:15 p.m. on November 13th, the NCDMV's connection to the NCDIT mainframe was restored so it could resume processing transactions in-person, online and at its self-service kiosks.
NCDIT will continue to monitor its systems.
