NAACP-Lexington branch to host housing resource fair

NAACP-Lexington branch to host housing resource fair

By Antionette Kerr | Davidson Local

The Lexington Branch of the NAACP is organizing a Housing Resource Fair on April 26, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Charles England Elementary School (111 Cornelia Street, Lexington, NC 27292). The event is designed to provide Davidson County residents with guidance on homeownership, renters’ rights, and housing-related legal protections.

The fair will feature a range of representatives offering information and resources on:

  • Mortgage lending

  • Real estate services

  • NC Legal Aid Fair Housing Law

  • Landlord-tenant responsibilities

  • Property management

  • Affordable housing programs

  • The homebuying process

According to organizers, the event aims to support first-time homebuyers, debunk credit myths, and inform renters of their legal rights—particularly in low-income and historically underserved communities.

“There are several misconceptions related to credit scores and who can be approved for a loan,” said Alan Suber, president of the Lexington Branch of the NAACP. “We find these misconceptions and misinformation mostly in disenfranchised or low-income communities. That’s why this event is so important.”

“Fair agreements between landlords, managers, and tenants are essential,” Suber added. “And we want renters to understand the protections the law provides for them.”

City leaders are expected to participate in the event to share what steps are being taken to address the affordable housing crisis locally. In addition, representatives from multiple agencies that support low-income families will be available to connect directly with community members.

The event is free and open to the public.
