Local schools Go Outside (GO) Grant provides supports field trips
The North Carolina Schools Go Outside (GO) Grant was created to address the main barrier to getting kids outside during the school day – funding. Field trips and outdoor experiences offer students opportunities to explore and learn in hands-on environments. With limited dollars available from our local school systems, such engaging and active styles of learning are becoming things of the past.
In District 29, we are proud to have had 7 schools receive GO grant funding for school field trips and project that will satisfy the lack of active and outdoor learning in today's school systems.
Davidson County High School received $497 to take students on a field trip to Emerald Hollow Mines.
Oak Grove High School received $5,000 to create an outdoor classroom featuring a pollinator garden and pond.
Yadkin Valley Regional Career Academy received $3,800 to build an outdoor classroom with a garden and student seating.
Stoner-Thomas School received $12,500 to construct a sensory and discovery garden for EC students that will be utilized by surrounding area schools.
North Davidson Middle School received $15,000 is create an outdoor classroom that features a student station and teacher station, complete with a whiteboard.
Green Ridge Elementary School received $2,500 for their fifth grade students to participate in the Muddy Sneakers Program.

Congratulations to all of these schools on their grants awarded and thank you to the NC GO Grant program for ensuring our students are provided with the best and a well-rounded education.
