Opinion: Joel's Job Tips #8 and #9

Opinion: Joel's Job Tips #8 and #9

Passion is what you put into the job not what you get out.

For years, we have told youth to follow their passions and then select a job. Since most students never get to visit industry, never get to work in advanced manufacturing, how do they really know what they like to do?

Going forward, we need to calibrate the aspirations of our youth to the real needs of our employers and teach them how to appreciate and love their jobs. It’s great to see more schools set up makerspaces and innovation labs like the new one set up in Lexington Middle School using funding donated by Nucor. We all need to give work a chance and help more youth grow their careers.

Attend the Davidson Local Job Fair!

Mark your calendars - August 24th 4-7pm
Bull City Ciderworks
Lexington, NC 27292

Nothing is more disheartening than to learn about a job fair at the last minute and not attending because you don’t have a resume or need to update the current one. Today, there’s no an excuse this because this event is four months out. If you need a resume, we’ve got your back!

Candidates will be able to enter a Mobile Career Center and have professional job counselors help them produce a new resume on the spot. Then, candidates can enter the job fair to compete for new jobs with the anticipated 40+ employers. The Piedmont Regional Council is providing a custom built class A bus to support our event with four career counselors.
