Dr. Anitra D. Wells, superintendent of Lexington City Schools, confirmed that principal Gene Jones has resigned his position at Lexington Senior High School effective June 30, 2022. Wells wrote in a statement, “He indicated that his reason for resigning is for personal reasons.”
Jones, who signed a two-year contract with a $138,000 annual salary in spring 2020, began a position July 1, 2019 at Amherst Regional High School in MA. Jones resigned after one year to accept the position at LCS. The administrator cited family reasons in media reports. He replaced Monique Curry in July of 2020.
Details of his contractual relationship with LCS have not been disclosed.
Wells wrote, ”In the meantime, we will work with the site-based School Improvement Team to do the following:
Conduct a survey of staff to identify desired characteristics for the next principal
Identify a team of LSHS staff who will serve on the interview team”
The district says the goal is to fill the post quickly.
Wells wrote, “We will advertise the position immediately in an effort to get a jump on great candidates. We will review all applicants and select a slate of candidates by May 1st and schedule and conduct interviews by May 20th in an effort to have a candidate identified by the June board meeting.”
