Photo Gallery: Art in the Park was a creative success

Tunes from bubbly musicians filled the park and serenaded attendees as they ventured from booth to booth having their senses delighted by talented artists last Saturday at Art in the Park. Arts Davidson County and Lexington Parks & Recreation partnered to bring interactive art to the community with the inaugural Art in the Park, an event designed to celebrate creativity and artistic expression.

The mural project began months before the event with the sidewall of the Lexington Parks & Recreation building, located on Hargrave Street in Lexington being given several coats of paint and marked with a grid in preparation for the mural.

It was magical to see the large and colorful random shapes slowly transform into an enormous monarch butterfly, spreading its wings as if it had just emerged from the chrysalis. The mural was truly a community effort as numerous hands were involved in its completion, ranging from budding, newly inspired artists to local artistic genius, Kenrick Jobe. Mayor Jason Hayes even got in on the fun.

Through the efforts of the Executive Board of Arts Davidson County, Lexington Parks & Recreation and countless volunteers. Art in the Park provides creatives of all ages and skill levels with free, hands on exposure to numerous genres of the art.

For more information or to participate in the next Art in the Park please contact Amanda Feliciano, Executive Director of Arts Davidson County or Lexington Parks & Recreation.
