Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk

Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk

Dear Friends,

I hope your week was peaceful and happy back home in our district of Davidson and Davie Counties. Here in Raleigh, historic voting took place on yet another impactful bill. The House also released its version of the budget and it is now the Senate's chance to review costs and weigh in on our version of how North Carolinians' tax dollars are spent.

We are quickly approaching another bill filing deadline at the end of next week, so bill action has been especially busy in the committees and on the chamber floor.

I have recently introduced a bill designed to ease the financial burden of yearly car inspections. Under SB 341, car owners would need to get their car inspected every other year, but it would eliminate additional tests that charge a fee.

The Senate cast historic votes on Tuesday to ratify SB 41, Protect the 2nd Amendment Act, into state law. This voting session successfully over-rides Governor Cooper's veto of the bill last week. SB 406, Choose Your School, Choose Your Future, also passed on the Senate floor and will provide even more school choices for the families of NC.

In committee news, we held a Subcommittee meeting on Hurricane Response and Recovery this week. As a home builder with deep knowledge of the building industry, I actively participated in the questioning and listened with an awareness of how much needs to change about the replacement of people's homes which were destroyed during catastrophic weather events.

The state of NC needs people to fill the hundreds of jobs that are available!

State government agencies are facing a serious labor shortage and steps are being taken to make it easier to work in these positions. The benefits of working as a state employee are robust and highly worth looking into.

In district news, Trinity Moravian Church in Winston Salem takes giving back to the community to new heights with its debt-forgiveness program. This program assisted over 3,000 families, many of whom live in Davidson and Davie County.

The beloved business in Lexington, Red Donut Shop, will now be widely available across our communities with its food truck expansion. Go get your maple bacon donut at one of the many spring festivals or sports events around town!

Easter Egg hunts are taking place this weekend--find one at your local church or go to the one mentioned below in Thomasville. Check out the high school theater production at Oak Grove High school or head to Denton and browse the antiques at the Pickers event. Don't forget to pick up a chicken pie for dinner if you are in the Winston Salem area on Saturday, too!

If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at (919) 733-5743.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
